The simple rustic-type setting with a fireplace and lots of wooden details complements the classic Czech menu of duck, goose, fish, and guláš. Service is informal and friendly.

An extensive wine list complements the tapas at this Spanish-style restaurant along the old town walls, just across from the Continental hotel. Pictures of bullfighters line the yellow walls, while a large patio overlooks the sprawling Křižíkovy Park. The menu also includes several types of paella, as well as beef and seafood dishes.

The sameness of the restaurants lining the square can be a bit numbing, but this one offers a reasonably priced selection of standard pork and chicken dishes, with the added charm of being in the ancient Špalíček complex.

Although it's pricey, Promenáda is unquestionably the best place to eat in Karlovy Vary. The starchy vibe is "'70s French fussy," and meals are on the heavy side. However, the menu is constantly changing as the chef uses fresh, seasonal ingredients. There's also an impressive selection of Moravian wines and a staff who are efficient without hovering.

Part of a hotel of the same name, the interior of Rango is a mash-up of medieval, baroque, and modern style—think Gothic arched ceilings and '60s modern light fixtures. Similarly, the cuisine ranges from Italy to Greece; in addition to panini, they serve excellent pasta dishes, pizzas, and grilled meat.

Just off the main street, this former postal building offers Czech and international cuisine in an uncluttered setting filled with dark wood. In good weather, there is seating on the outdoor terrace. It is part of a small and somewhat informal wellness hotel.

The sunny interior here echoes its name, which means "sunflower." This café bills itself as a health restaurant and offers some (but not exclusively) organic and vegetarian menu items in a variety of styles, from Indian to Italian.

Fresh Pilsner Urquell and variations on classic Czech dishes draw diners to this Pilsner Urquell–sponsored restaurant. A gleaming copper hood floats above the taps in traditional pub style, and the patio invites visitors to spend the evening sipping cold beer and enjoying treats such as boar guláš with dumplings or roasted duck with red cabbage. The same space also has a wine bar (Vinárna).

Usually when a restaurant has the name "Schweik" in it—from the novel Good Soldier Schweik—it means one thing: tourist trap. But this local Schweik incarnation is a cut above its brethren. If you're looking for a simple, decent Czech pub, with good local cooking and excellent beer, you've found it.
