A little kitschy, yes, but the food is some of the best African cuisine in the city. Near the American embassy, the restaurant is recognizable by its thatched, A-frame entryway. It's no surprise that brown, gold, terra cotta, and pops of green color the dining room, but the look is not over-the-top. Service can be slow when the dining room is busy, which is not uncommon. Ghanaian and Nigerian specialties are big hits, but other African countries get nods. The menu lists okra stew, jollof rice, oxtail, goat meat pepper soup, peppered snails, pounded yams, fried plantain, fresh coconut milk, and fresh mango juice.

Locals love this clean, efficient, friendly place—the husband is German, his wife is from Ghana, and together, the couple has created a solid restaurant serving both Continental and Ghanaian dishes. Choose from assorted seafood dishes, including simple preparations such as fried red snapper in spicy tomato sauce or more elaborate concoctions like grouper gratin. Chicken with jollof rice is oh-so-Ghanaian. If you're feeling far from home and hankering for pizza or steak and fries, they have those, too.
