The city of Lockport has five sets of operating locks along the Erie Canal. The busy lock system still operates in much the same manner as it did nearly a century ago. The historic district downtown surrounds the canal and locks, which you may see in action. Locks 34 and 35 can be viewed from the Big Bridge and Pine Street Bridge. Museums and historic sites trace the heritage of the canal and lock system and the town that grew up around them.
