Bluff International Balloon Festival. Held the weekend before Martin Luther King Jr. Day, this three-day ballooning festival includes concerts, a taco supper, an ice cream social, a "night glow," and flights over Valley of the Gods and Monument Valley. bluffutah.org.

Navajo Nation Annual Tribal Fair. The world's largest Native American fair includes a rodeo, traditional Navajo music and dances, food booths and fry-bread competitions, a Miss Navajo Nation Pageant, and an intertribal powwow during the first week of September, at Window Rock. 928/871–6478; www.facebook.com/NavajoNationFair.
