ALT Montreal Griffintown
120 rue Peel, Montréal, Québec H3C 4B8, CanadaWhy We Like It
OK, OK, there are no king-sized beds and no bathtubs in the single rooms, but at their flat rate, is that such a big deal? We don’t think so. What you get instead is a highly affordable, comfortable, sleek room with no set check-out time. Oh, and there’s free, fast Wi-Fi. We also like that the building is energy efficient and features a geothermal heating and cooling system that recycles warm air. As you might’ve guessed, there’s also a Tesla and electronic car charging station.
Fodor's Expert Review
Savvy young game developers, hipsters, bloggers, and budget-conscious artists flock to ALT in Griffintown (and its sister in Brossard) because of the exceptional style and comfort provided for the miraculous (set) rate of $159 a night for a room with one queen-sized bed.
Tip There’s no official check-out time, so go ahead and sleep in, my friend. Just let them know approximately when you’ll be leaving, so they can arrange housekeeping accordingly.

Room
Compact and minimal chic, the 250-square-foot single rooms manage to pack in a lot: a comfy queen-size bed with Egyptian cotton sheets and a goose down comforter, feather center “duvet” pillows, huge flat-screen televisions, clock radios, a Keurig coffee machine, a multi-plug connectivity panel, a work station with ergonomic chair and free Wi-Fi.
You Should Know We aren’t kidding about the 250-square-foot single room size. And there are no king-sized beds. Anyone who needs to spread out will feel confined. For another $20, get the double room with two queen beds.
Bathroom
If you like full-force water pressure, you’ll be happy. The ALT has spa-style showers with a showerhead generating a dense and abundant flow. Body products are by the local company Bella Pella.
You Should Know Only the bigger rooms with two queen-sized beds have tubs. Single rooms have showers.
Lobby
Open concept and breezy, the lobby is like your coolest friend’s loft, with pixilated art and furniture that didn’t come from Ikea. There’s a bar and a small market called Altceteria for creative popcorn, drinks, chips, chocolate, and other munchies.
Dining
There’s no in-house restaurant, but who cares? The ALT is close to the trendiest strip of eateries in town—in Griffintown, to be exact. For coffee, there’s an espresso machine in the lobby and a Starbucks on site. Emergency munchies are for sale in the lobby.

Getting Around
ALT Hotel Montreal is nested in the trendy Griffintown neighborhood, at the crossroads of Young, Peel, Wellington, and Smith Streets—just below downtown, steps away from the Lachine Canal and Old Montreal area. The public parking lot underground is $25.50 for day, or $8 per hour, but guests who stay for two nights on the weekend park for free.
Restaurants
Le Fantôme (15-minute walk) is all the rage with their celery root lasagna and other crowd pleasers. Another favorite eatery in Griffintown is Hvor (20-minute walk), for organic tasting menus by up-and-coming chefs who paid their dues in other icon restaurants.
