Money Matters

ATMs are becoming more common in this part of the country, although we recommend, if possible, stocking up on cash in San José. You'll find cash machines in Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí, Guápiles, Guácimo, Siquirres, and several in Limón. Puerto Viejo de Talamanca has two; Cahuita has one. ATMs in smaller towns may run out of cash on weekends. Remember: many smaller places—there are a lot of those here in the Caribbean—do not accept credit cards.
