Why We Like It

Solid, dependable, comfortable: the positives might not be the most exciting reasons to love a hotel but when you’re travelling for large swathes of the year a reliable property is not to be sniffed at. Well-located for business, the Doubletree Hilton Islington has the Angel backstreets on the doorstep for shopping for that perfect gift to take home.

Fodor's Expert Review

A hotel that appears disguised as a smart brick office block, the Doubletree Hilton Islington is ideally located for business travelers who want to locate to a neighborhood as ideal for its business connections as the antique stores and independent boutiques that make it a vibrant weekend destination. A mature, modern space, the hotel features the standards you’d expect from the Hilton chain and while there’s not a lot of quirk to notice in the décor, the quality will mean one less thing to worry about for frequent business travelers.

You Should Know Completely geared towards business, service is efficient and on the ball, but don't book here if you prefer a personal touch.

Room

A neutral décor keeps things simple and inoffensive so expect a comfortable bed, premium linens and spotless cleanliness rather than interesting design. That said, rooms are pleasant and bright and come with desks if you have to bring the office home with you.

Bathroom

The neat, compact bathrooms are decked in white with bathtub and shower providing a choice and toiletries are of course complimentary.

Lobby

The lobby couldn’t feel more like a business hotel if it tried, with its multiple check-in desks providing the efficiency Hilton lovers will know and trust. Like a conference hall in miniature, the foyer leads to a comfortable lounge complete with armchairs, sofas and desktop computers for guests’ convenience.

Gym

The small gym is surprisingly well equipped with a range of cardiovascular machines with flat screens to keep you entertained when motivation begins to flag.

Dining

Once the enfant terrible of the culinary world, the name of chef Marco Pierre White is now reconciled with his chain of signature steakhouses like the one on the ground floor at the Doubletree Hilton Islington. Expect solid steaks in a restaurant just about fancy enough to entertain clients in.

Drinking

Just removed from the lobby lifts, Bar 160 is fine for impromptu drinks at the bar but the surrounding area of Angel has plenty of excellent alternatives close by.

Tip Avoid the bar and head for one of the many bars on Upper Street where weekends can be super-lively.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Deceptively close to the West End, Angel is awash with international businesses who want equally convenient access to both the City and central London. And while there is a large business community, the neighborhood is home to a slew of independent boutiques, cafes and restaurants. Angel Underground Station is well-connected for Tube lines and the nearby Kings Cross mainlines station provides international connections via Eurostar. If you have the time, don’t hesitate to explore the area on foot, making a beeline for Camden Passage and its cute cafes and antique and vintage stores.

Restaurants

A quick bite to eat means a trip to Five Guys (13-minute walk), the American fast food chain that has brought its greasy – yet delicious – brioche sandwiched burgers to London. For a classier occasion, go to Ottonlenghi (14-minute walk) for amazing Middle Eastern cuisine, or Hoxley and Porter (15-minute walk), an extravagantly designed homage to 1920s Colonial style that serves an adventurous European menu.

Bars

The Elk in the Woods (10-minute walk), a rustic café with a faintly Nordic vibe, is the hip place for cocktails on the picturesque strip of Camden Passage. The Island Queen (12-minute walk) is the pub that’s going to show you what you’ve been missing in every other London pub you’ve visited up to now.
