Fodor's Expert Review Dawar El Omda
Hurghada 2, el-Gouna, Red Sea, 84513, Egypt
The name of this hotel within the Qafr means "the mayor's house," and that is its theme, with decorative touches depicting 19th-century Cairene styling. The small reception area is lighted by a massive old brass and copper lantern, and the tables in the dining room are made of heavy wood. The pool seems to spill over into the canal, and views are gorgeous. The rooms are cozy, and each has a balcony overlooking the canal and pool. As the hotel is not right on the beach, they operate a shuttle to a private beach they share with another hotel.
PROS
- slightly more affordable than other Downtown hotels
- in the heart of the walkable Downtown area
- hourly shuttle to private beach
CONS
- rooms and design are somewhat dated
- proximity to Downtown bars and restaurants means evenings can be noisy
- service can be spotty
